Leeds Sports Physio FAQ

Do I need a GP referral in Leeds?

No, you don’t need a GP referral to see our Leeds physiotherapists, although your GP may refer you to us. Self-referral is common and provides a reliable route to receiving treatment earlier than you could receive through the NHS.

Referring yourself provides access to all suitable treatments. The bottom line is there’s no reason to return to your GP practice for a referral.

How long is an appointment?

Appointments containing treatments and initial consultations last between 30 minutes and one hour. Most appointments hit the hour mark.

An initial consultation is a detailed assessment that is wholly necessary to develop a treatment plan that is personalised to you. The treatments that follow will be in your plan and provide a roadmap to recovery.

What should I wear?

Loose and comfortable clothing that’s easy to dress and undress with is best because you will be asked to remove some clothing for treatment appropriate to the session.

For instance, you will remove your trousers if your physio appointment is for your legs, or your top, if you’re here because of back or shoulder pain.

We can arrange a physiotherapist of the same sex if necessary and accommodate religious garments. Please inform us before your appointment.

Do you treat sports injuries?

We specialise in doing so, working with sports institutions, as well as professional footballers, rugby players, cricketers, and jockeys (if you’re a fan of Leeds Rhinos RLFC and Leeds Carnegie RUFC, David Stringer has worked with both).

Our relationships with orthopaedic specialists in the region ensure we can provide the best treatment for all sports injuries.

What else do you treat?

We can help you with:

  • Back pain & sciatica
  • Knee, hip, groin & ankle injuries
  • Whiplash injuries
  • Shoulder, elbow & wrist injuries
  • Muscle, ligament & tendon injuries
  • Broken bones & fractures
  • Postural problems
  • Repetitive strain injury
  • Arthritis & rheumatism
  • Chronic pain

If your musculoskeletal problem is not listed above, you can rest assured that with our experience, you are in safe hands.

Which areas of Leeds do you cover?

All areas. Your appointment will take place at our Leeds practice at 481 Otley Road, Adel, and most customers live within 15 miles of us. Our clients come in for treatment from the likes of Roundhay, Chapel Allerton, and Headingley.

Is parking available?

Parking is available at the front and side of our practice (subject to availability) and extensively down The Otley Road. You shouldn’t experience any problems finding a space directly outside. You can call 10 minutes before and ask.

What are the next steps for my treatment?

Please call us on 07974 578191 for a chat, 7 AM – 9 PM Monday – Friday, and 8 AM – 12 PM Saturday. If you prefer email, send to david@leedssportsphysio.com.

We reply to emails usually the same day and at most within two days. For a physical appointment, contact us before your arrival for timely advice. Walk-ins are only suitable for making appointments; unfortunately, we can’t provide same-day treatments.
