David Stringer reflects on Lions colleagues success in Australia

The British and Irish Lions made history this weekend by achieving a first series win in 16 years. The Lions which is made up of the best Rugby Union players in England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland secured a 41-16 victory to take the test series 2-1. In total David has personally treated five of Saturday’s victorious Lions as part of his role as Locum Physiotherapist to the England Senior Squad and knows various members of the management personally as well.

David Commented “It was fantastic to see such a complete performance from the Lions this weekend, the tension prior to the match and the celebrations afterwards must have felt like nothing these guys have experienced before. I was personally delighted to see England Physiotherapist Phil Pask (a veteran of five Lions tours) get a very public thank you from “Corbs” for the time and effort he has put into treating his calf tear and getting him fit for the final test. Having worked with these guys at international level I can appreciate just how many man hours go into keeping these guys on the field, you are generally working a fourteen hour day and when you consider they have been on tour for a month the medical and conditioning staff will have had little time to rest. A massive well done to all those involved, they will go down in rugby history”.

David will continue his role with the England squads this season. Now in his sixth year as a member of the Elite Medical department to the English Rugby Football Union, David has worked with the Senior squad at Twickenham, St. George’s Park and Pennyhill Park as well as touring South Africa with the England U18 squad.
